There's a version of strength nobody photographs: the pause. We tend to focus on the medal at the end of the finish line, but this painting is about the breath in between reps, when the body hasn't decided yet whether it can keep going.
I painted Rest Intervals after watching Natalie Anderson grind her way through her ordeal in Survivor Winners at War (yes, huge Survivor fan over here), and I couldn't stop thinking about those in-between moments when she made the decision to keep going, despite the physical, emotional, and mental toll it took.
Acrylic on cradled 7/8” thick panel, 10 x 8 inches. Unframed.
